Dutch company creates Robird and an awesome new Dutch word

Big Data, Virtual Reality and now robotics. A new age is upon us and even in the Netherlands (or especially in the Netherlands!) we get to see some amazing innovative products made possible by these awesome innovative developments. Enter Robird! A mechanic and/or robotic bird made by Clear Flight Solutions, a company from the Netherlands (Enschede even, but that’s impossible to pronounce for non-native speakers).

Robird? What’s this now?

Robirds are  remotely controlled robotic birds of prey, with the realistic appearance and weight of their living counterparts. Robirds use flapping wing flight as a means of propulsion, with a flight performance comparable to real birds. Based on nature itself, the Robird offers new and exciting possibilities in bird control. By triggering the instinct of birds, through the combination of silhouette and wing movement, chasing birds becomes fully controllable. So you can look forward to seeing these techbirds implemented around airports or farming areas, chasing away their natural cousins.

Awesome new Dutch word: Robotroofvogel

As if Robird wasn’t cool enough, the Dutch phrase for it is even better due to alliteration and such, namely: ROBOT-ROOF-VOGEL. It translates to English like this: Robot (duh!) – Hunt – Bird. But saying robotroofvogel is so much more awesome, thank you robotics for bringing us this new word to our already freaky vocabulary.  Here’s a video on the little fella, enjoy!

Abuzer founded DutchReview a decade ago because he thought expats needed it and wanted to make amends for the Dutch cuisine. He has a Masters in Political Science and IT but somewhere always wanted to study history or good old football. He also a mortgage in the Netherlands and will happily tell you too how to get one. Born and raised in Rotterdam, Abuzer now lives in Leiden but is always longing back to his own international year in Italy.
