Why Blijdorp Festival should be on your bucket list this year

What is Blijdorp Festival?

Blijdorp Festival is an independent electronic music festival, held right next to Rotterdam zoo – the perfect backdrop for any great festival! With views by the lake in Roel Langerakpark and amongst a forest, it’s a place of tranquillity. Blijdorp festival celebrates all things happy, and is all about culture, art, music and general fun. Basically, all you could ever want, sandwiched in one local and up-coming festival. Caught your attention yet? Well, read on.

Why attend Blijdorp Festival?

It’s only their 5th year running, yet the festival has already attracted some very well established DJs, and is rapidly increasing in popularity. With people like Jackmaster, George Fitzgerald and Denis Sulta playing at Blijdorp this year, it’s no wonder that it’s getting so popular (but we’ll get onto the lineup later).

Not only is Blijdorp in a unique location, surrounded by nature, but the stages are just as visually appealing. Not to mention both the acts and food (which is doubly as important for you foodies), is both diverse, lekker and appealing. I mean, what could be better than partying at a boutique festival next to a zoo?

Although it’s big on techno, Bljidorp festivals offers something a little more than that. It has an ‘Amazonica’ hip-hop stage, in a massive open-air dome. This is inspired by the zoo’s butterfly paradise – so you really can feel at one at nature. Along with live stages, with a selection of bands. There’s something for everyone.

What is the line-up?

In case the intro hasn’t swayed you enough, as you know, the line-up is for all the electronic music lovers out there. Especially great for the techno scene. The line-up is looking pretty stacked this year. They have George Fitzgerald, Jackmaster, David Vunk, FS Green, dOP, Denis Sulta, Hunee, Benny Rodrigues, Antal, Weval (duo), The Flexican, Bradley Zero, Jeff Solo, Klapband, Philou Louzolo, LEFTO, Legowelt, Sassy009, Job Smit, Moxie, Operator Radio, Bounty Island, Stippenlift, Arp Frique & Family, House of G.H.O.D, Cynthia Spiering, Nino from the Woods, Kakhiel, Odin B2B Paquito Moniz, HEAZ, Chaiba and Thelonious. So there should be definitely something there to your liking.

As you can see, the line-up is pretty up-and-coming and especially impressive for such a small festival. It just makes you think how it will evolve within the next few years!

Where is it?

Right next to the Blijdorp Zoo, in Roel Langerakpark, Blijdorp, Rotterdam. Blijdorp is only one stop from Rotterdam Centraal – so it’s easy to get to, and only a stone’s throw from the very heart of Rotterdam. So, there, no excuses that your friend can’t make it or that it’s too awkward to get to! It’s not even very far to walk from the metro either. It’s just generally in an awesome location all-round.

In case it somehow hasn’t managed to impress you yet, then check out their after-movie. It’s really something quite special. See you there!
