Are you ready to properly send away the summer with the Embassy Festival in The Hague? During this amazing two-day festival you can enjoy a ton of fun activities right in the city center of The Hague. This international festival at the 31st of August and 1st of September offers you a cultural, culinary and musical voyage of discovery and shows us that culture connects people and that togetherness and amazement go hand in hand. (yes, it’s like DutchReview, but with fewer gifs and actual drinks and people)
Here is everything you need to know about these two days of cultural awesomeness. Oh, and it’s all free.
What is the Embassy Festival in The Hague?
So, what’s it all about? The Embassy Festival celebrates the cultural diversity of The Hague. Considering 1/3 of the people living in the Hague have foreign roots, it’s the perfect place to host a festival which will celebrate this cultural diversity. And no better way to celebrate our differences and bring us together, than through an international festival, right?
Each embassy (for participating countries see the end of the article) will showcase their cultural richness by putting on activities and performances in relation to that country, with a lot of the program involving music. This jam-packed event will, therefore, help to bring us all together – and we will learn something about another country on the way too.
This year more than 60 countries (or embassies if you will) will be participating in this exciting event, making the Embassy Festival of 2018 bigger and better than ever. So if you already live in The Hague – get out of the house! And if you don’t live there – jump on a train and go, go, go! Because there is nothing better than sending the summer away with a colorful cultural festival in The Hague.
Embassy Festival in The Hague – 31st of August (Friday)
Time: 17.00 – 23.00
Place: Lange Voorhout
Program: International music performances on One Stage and Container Stage
The first day of the Embassy Festival starts at 5PM at the Lange Voorhout. This year marks the 6th edition of this festival, so it’s set to be a diverse and colorful program. Enjoy a dynamic performance by the Americana/indie-pop sensations Folk Road Show (an Australian/Canadian/Dutch band). Or enjoy an enchanting show by multi-instrumentalist Témé Tan – a Congo-born musician who has traveled the world to find inspiration for his music. Loads of tasty food and drink options will also be available on site, so don’t miss out on the chance to have some delicious festival food.
Embassy Festival in The Hague – 1st of September (Saturday)
Time: 12.00 – 20.00
Place: Lange Voorhout
Program: International Market, Classical Stage, Contemporary Stage, Container Stage, Creative Arena, Kids Compound
On the second day, the Embassy Festival in The Hague will also be at Lange Voorhout. On Saturday, the festival will start off at 12.00 instead of 17.00 on Friday, so there is more time to enjoy the multiple activities throughout the day. You can enjoy various stages, such as the Classical stage, Contemporary stage, Creative Arena (world-mix of dance, music and
theater), a Container Stage (program includes acts from the cultural institutions) and a Kids Compound.
On the contemporary stage, there will be a wide variety of international artists such as America’s very own Dylan LeBlanc (think Fleet Foxes and Neil Young mixed with pop and 70’s folk). Dandana – providing a mix of synths, afrobeat and hip-hop. Tabanka from Cape Verde, who will be providing a modern twist to funaná, which is the most popular dance music there. If you’re after something summery, don’t miss Les Touristes, who will be playing some hip-hop and electronic summer tunes.
Connecting the paths to the different stages, there will be an International Market. Visitors will be able to try foods and drinks from all the corners of the world. You can try wine from Australia, Bulgaria, and Chile. Or try various delicacies from the Philippines, Ukraine, and Switzerland. You can also buy cosmetics form Croatia! How about coffee from Guatemala? And that’s just a few of the countries participating in the International Market.
See you there!
