Increase of tourists coming to the Netherlands (largest in a decade)!

More tourists come to the Netherlands

It’s no real surprise, but the Netherlands is getting an influx of tourists coming to the Netherlands, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). In fact it’s been the highest rise in a decade, with a 13% increase in 2017. These statistics are based on tourists that had an overnight stay in the Netherlands and doesn’t include Air BnB. This means that the stats are probably a lot higher, taking everything into consideration. Especially with the Air BnB complaints in cities like Amsterdam.

It’s a pretty big increase, huh?

The Brits, Germans and Belgians are coming…

The Germans are the largest nationality to visit the Netherlands, followed by Belgians and Brits (hugging pints of booze and joints of weed). So if you come across an annoying tourist, then shouting in either English, German, Dutch or French should do the trick. 😉

Tourism has also grown from tourists coming from outside of Europe. Over 20% of foreign tourists staying in Dutch hotels came from outside of Europe in 2017.

Amsterdam

Of course Amsterdam is the biggest attraction in the Netherlands, with almost 4 in 10 foreign visitors going to Amsterdam specifically. For the Brits, this is the main attraction, with Germans and Belgians not straying much further then the border or the beach. The Brits normally just go all out and head straight for the capital (a lot of my friends just want to go straight to “the ‘dam” when they visit).

Good news for the economy, not so great for pushing the residents out when Air BnB takes over.
