Maybe toy stores are not a thing of the past: Intertoys is making a comeback!

Good news for everybody who were sad about Intertoys filing for bankruptcy – this chain toy store is coming back for you to get out of the house, take your kids (or your inner child) and reminisce about your childhood!

The store is restarting thanks to the Portuguese toy specialist Green Swan who took over a large part of the company, reports NOS. They also own Toys ‘R’ Us, Maxi Toys and the Belgian Bart Smit.

Intertoys comeback: how many stores will remain?

Intertoys has 286 stores, in addition to 100 franchise stores. They will be retaining 220 of these stores, including the franchises. This means that around 1000-1500 people will get to keep their jobs, which is only half of the total. Additionally, this also means that 91 stores will have to shut doors by mid-May, and so they will start their sales to clear out their inventory from Saturday. The remaining 70 stores still have to wait on their fate, and will depend on landlords, rental contractors and franchisers, among other things.

The store filed for bankruptcy last month because it could not cope up with the competition coming from online stores like bol.com, Kruidvat, and so on, where their sales had reduced by almost 50% in the last decade. We hope this restart will mean that they have a plan set in place to keep up with the competition and still give everyone an experience they can enjoy, both online and offline.

How thrilled are you to hear about Intertoys making a comeback? Some people do prefer going to the store to let their kid pick out the toy they want, rather than doing it from behind a phone screen. If yes, then look out for those 91 stores which will have sales going on!
