Explosive found at coffeeshop in Amsterdam

A hand grenade was found at a coffeeshop on Brouwersgracht in the center of Amsterdam on Sunday morning. The grenade was said to be hanging from the coffeeshop’s door.

It was reported at around 9 a.m near coffeeshop Siberia. The Explosives Clearance Service (EOD) disarmed and removed by 1:30 p.m, reports Het Parool. However, this was delayed as the team was busy with the ATM explosion at Delflandplein. The Brouwersgracht was closed during this time, as well as the canals between Prinsengracht and Herengracht.

An investigation has been opened to find out what happened. The police did not make any statements as to why an explosive was planted on Brouwersgracht.

You might be shocked to hear but this is not a rare event. Explosives are often discovered in coffeeshops in Amsterdam. Two hand grenades were found last week at New Times coffeeshop, on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Another coffeeshop, Smoke Palace in Amsterdam Oost suffered explosions in January and March.
