Ajax Juventus ends in 1 -1 and 137(!) arrests were made in Amsterdam on Wednesday (vid inside!)

Ajax played a nice game of football which ended in a 1-1, a result with prospects for the return match.

It wasn’t a quiet day in Amsterdam also, as a total of around 140 arrests were made around the Ajax – Juventus match as the police reported Wednesday. 30 Ajax fans and 107 Juventus fans were arrested.

Of the Juventus fans, 46 were arrested in the metro and another 61 at the stadium.

The arrests began Wednesday afternoon before the game where the police arrested two large groups of Italians at the stadium and at Weesperplein station. These fans were armed (damn) with pepper spray, a hammer, a knife and flagpoles.

A total of 107 Italian detainees were taken to a detention center by bus.

Ajax fans got arrested too

Ajax-fans at the stadium were throwing fireworks and participating in an “Entrada”, a celebration Ajax fans carry out in important matches.  Police used a water cannon to extinguish fireworks and arrested 30 Ajax fans on the Arena Boulevard.

There were also numerous acts of violence, with objects thrown at people and property destroyed at the south side of the Arena.

The match was considered a “high risk match” due to the possibility of riots and violence. Extra safety measures were applied, like allowing officers to search fans.

The game ended 1-1, giving Juventus an advantage in away goals. Cristiano Ronaldo scored for Juventus before the break and David Neres scored for Ajax at the beginning of the second half. The Italian press thought that Ajax was just a tad bit better and De Jong and De Ligt, the Dutch wonderkids, were excellent once again.

  1. What a sad event. No civilized person engages in mindless violence and destruction, especially at sporting events where families with children are in attendance. I hope all the people arrested get some jail time and very large fines.
