Dutch Football Review Week 9: Graziano Pelle

Welcome to DutchReviews weekly Dutch Football Review brought to you by Abuzer van Leeuwen. Where the heck is Jop you might ask? In Barcelona! And probably enjoying better football in CampNou this week. He’ll be back next week though, no worries!

Jop has missed a rather uneventful round in the Dutch Eredivisie this weekend. With no real surprises in this week’s results. Although there has been one result which was sort of a surprise. Feyenoord has finally managed to grab an away-win and a not too shabby one either. Winning 1-2 at Vitesse and allowing me to feature, once more, the best player in the Eredivisie:

GRAZIANO PELLE

(if there was something more screaming for attention than ALLCAPS I would have used that)
Once more this week was packed with Pelle-related news. Of course, his haircut alone has a bigger fan base than most of the other Eredivisie players put together. And this week, he also replaced Stefan de Vrij as captain of the Feyenoord-squad. De Vrij was caught this week training extra on the side, and with training I don’t mean a synonym for boozing and whoring. No he was training extra without the club and coach Koeman knowing about it. Also taking De Vrij’s lackluster form and lack of general leadership capabilities into account and it was enough for Koeman to hand over the captainship to Feyenoords natural leader for the past year. Also, Immers started out on the bench, after months of getting the benefit of the doubt.
Koemans choices paid off in this weekend. Feyenoord didn’t play that good, but scored a quick two goals in the first half. And Vitesse, Peter Bosz’s squad wasn’t having its luckiest day, only managed to get one in. So Feyenoord and Playboy/captain/internationalplayer/marketingman/HaircutIcon Graziano Pelle are back on track for the Eredivisie title.

PSV and Ajax win as well

Ajax unluckily drew 1-1 versus AC Milan this week and recovered quietly against FC Utrecht with a 3-0 victory. PSV scored a lucky goal in the last-minutes of the match against RKC, also winning 2-1. Memphis Depay, a young and upcoming attacker for PSV, scored a scorcher for PSV in the UEFA cup this week and was also selected by the Dutch national coach Louis van Gaal.

Depay
Just nineteen years old…

Anything else this week? Not in The Hague, the pitch was (once again) so abominable that the referee declared it unplayable. So ADO The Hague versus Heerenveen has been postponed.

Abuzer founded DutchReview a decade ago because he thought expats needed it and wanted to make amends for the Dutch cuisine. He has a Masters in Political Science and IT but somewhere always wanted to study history or good old football. He also a mortgage in the Netherlands and will happily tell you too how to get one. Born and raised in Rotterdam, Abuzer now lives in Leiden but is always longing back to his own international year in Italy.
