In a rush to get home? The evening rush hour is expected to start earlier and get much busier today

If you’ve had a bad day at work and you’re in a rush to get home this afternoon, then think again. The rush hour is expected to start earlier and get much busier today due to public transport strikes, reports NOS.

Public transport strikes caused many traffic jams across the country this morning and in case you were lucky enough to miss them, you may find you’ll be stuck in them on the way home. For the first time if your life, if your boss asks you to work late – you might actually consider it.

The busiest areas will be in the Randstad and around the large cities – the weather also isn’t great which has put people off cycling and more people are in their cars.

Is there any other way of getting home?

Apart from braving the traffic in a car, Flixbus or taxi, there’s not much else you can do apart from walk or cycle. The strike is expected to end early tomorrow morning and no public transport will run. The only acceptions are a few buses in smaller places in the north and also a train goes between Schiphol and Amsterdam. Other than that, you’re out of luck.

Why is the national transport strike taking place?

Trade unions want the retirement age to freeze, as it’s rising to 67 by 2024. They want the retirement age to stay at 66, as they argue that it’s heavy work and their workers have the right to a healthy retirement.

This strike originally took place on the 18th March, but it was interrupted by the attack in Utrecht.

How did you get to work this morning? Let us know in the comments!
