Hottest June night ever and hottest June 25th ever

You probably already know because it’s all anyone talked about. Predictable comments such as “Stay cool!”, “I’m so sweaty” and “I need to get to the beach” were heard multiple times throughout the day as temperatures soared to a scorching 36C on Tuesday 25 June. Luckily, options to cool off were possible throughout the day. But as the sun went down, people in the Netherlands had to endure the hottest night ever on record.

Record breaking 25 June night

Both Weerplaza and Weeronline reported that in De Bilt it didn’t drop below 19.5C in in the 24-hour period between 2.00 a.m. and the following night at 2.00 a.m. This makes June 25 night surpass the previous record set on 27 June 1947 by 0.1C.

The night is just shy of being declared a tropical night which occurs when the temperature does not drop below 20 degrees. The Netherlands is still waiting for its first tropical night. Since measurements first began, this has only occurred six times during July and August.

National monthly record also broken

June is also registered as the being the hottest june-month on record. The monthly average was 22.9C for Eindhoven and 21.9C for Maastricht.

You think that’s warm?

According to the World Meterological Association the hottest temperature ever recorded on Earth was 56.7C in Death Valley, California.

Temperatures for now are down a bit, but expect it to be 30+ again this weekend. Yeeh?!
Are you enjoying the heat? Or are you itching for Autumn?

A restless and curious nature has led her to move countries 5 times in the last 3 years in attempt to find a place she can call home. She contacted DutchReview on a whim and arrived in the Netherlands in summer 2019 to start her internship.
