4 FREE things to do this weekend in the Netherlands

If you’ve been following a lot of our articles recently, then you’ve probably seen us banging on about events happening. Well we’ve now compiled a list of 4 things to do this weekend. Especially as the weather is so good! Wanna know something even better? All of these are completely FREE. So no excuses now. So here there are…

1) Beach, beach, beach!

It’s time to head to the beach! Surely our cover pic of Ameland beach has swayed you? Okay, so maybe you’re feeling daring and want to take a dip in the sea. Not going to lie to you now, but it’s probably going to turn your legs a weird shade of purple. It’s definitely warm enough to lay on the beach though (it over 20 degrees this weekend after all). So if you want to getting your glaringly pale legs out for the world to see, then a beach is the perfect place to do so. We’ve complied a guide of 7 amazing beaches throughout the whole of the Netherlands. So check it out if your week has been a bit of a beach (please say you got the pun). 😉

How could you resist?

2) Join a giant pillow fight

Nope, not one from within the confines of your house. We have something even better. This Saturday is International Pillow Fight Day. This is the day where cities all over the world come to together to… well… hit strangers in the head with pillows. May sound bizarre, but it’s fun as hell. Amsterdam is holding a giant pillow fight in Dam Square on Saturday, closely followed by Rotterdam next weekend. So maybe you could head to Amsterdam this weekend and then do it all again in Rotterdam next weekend? C’mon, be a big kid. 😉

Owch…that’s gotta hurt!

3) Watch the Rotterdam marathon

This Saturday is the Rotterdam marathon – where runners will run 42km and along the iconic Erasmus Bridge. It’s the perfect day to watch it – the sun is shining! Watching people suffer is never advised (unless it’s your drunk mate throwing himself all over the floor), but on Saturday it’s perfectly acceptable to watch people in pain, while you sit back and cheer them on. It’s obviously too late to participate, but there’s nothing stopping you from joining in on the adrenaline.

With views like this, why not see the runners go across the Erasmus bridge?

4) Take cool snaps at the cherry blossom festival

There is a cherry blossom festival at Amsterdamse Bos, Bloesempark. This festival is to thank the Japanese community for donating 400 cherry trees to Amsterdamse Bos. It looks absolutely beautiful and has turned into a bit of a tourist attraction. Especially for all of you Instagram lovers (GUILTY). So if you’re after a bit of spring lovin’, then head there to enjoy the sunshine and everything that spring has to offer.
