Celebrate Pasar at Wereldmuseum Leiden with its biggest festival yet

Wereldmuseum Leiden is celebrating its fifth edition of Pasar Leiden, and it’s pulling out all the stops with a two-day edition of its beloved annual festival on August 29 and 30, 2026.
A pasar is an Indonesian-style market, and this one has become one of the most colourful weekends in Leiden’s summer calendar.
It centres on the Indo-Dutch, Indonesian, Moluccan, and Papuan cultures that have shaped the Netherlands in ways many internationals are still discovering.
How does it do this? With food, music, and a lively market that’s very easy to spend an entire afternoon at.
The grounds of Wereldmuseum Leiden are transformed for the occasion, with stalls selling authentic dishes alongside fashion, lifestyle goods, and books where tradition meets modern creativity.
So what’s actually on?
Expect a packed programme across both days, indoors and outdoors with:
- A vibrant market with food, fashion, lifestyle goods, and books
- Live music performances
- Cultural workshops and performances
- A kids’ corner for younger visitors
Whether you come for the nasi or the atmosphere, there’s something for everyone.
