Take the bus? Yet another regional transport strike announced for Thursday

13,500 employees will take part

Last week, regional transport workers began the first of a series of weekly strikes in response to poor working conditions. This week, yet another strike will take place on Thursday, October 22.

They threaten to continue these strikes once per week up until Christmas if necessary.

Negotiations between the FNV and their employer, The Association of Public Transport Employers (VWOV), have stalled.

The union is demanding a wage increase, better conditions for older employees, more agency over their work schedules, and allowances for working unfavourable hours.

Regional transport in larger cities should still run

According to the NOS, public transport in major Dutch cities should continue to run on Thursday.

These cities are likely the same as last week, meaning that public transport in Rotterdam, The Hague, and Amsterdam should run as normal.

However, for the rest of us, expect delays if your commute involves Arriva, EBS, QBbuzz, and Keolis buses or trains.

No less than 13,500 employees will take part in the strike, so unless you absolutely must get somewhere on Thursday, you may be better off staying at home.
