Texting and calling to other EU countries from the Netherlands will get much cheaper from today

From today, calling and texting other countries within the EU from the Netherlands will be much cheaper. So, if you haven’t called home in a while, then now is the time. 😉

Previously calling from the Netherlands to another EU country cost between 25 and 75 cents per minute. From today it will cost only a maximum of 19 cents per minute and for texting, only 6 cents per text (excluding VAT) – a massive deduction from the previous cost. According to RTL Nieuws, international calls were three times more expensive than calling domestically and texting was more than twice as expensive. Now that gap is getting ever smaller.

These rates will only apply to private individuals and not to businesses, as the European Commission argues that businesses already receive good offers.

EU roaming charges

These changes were actually agreed almost a year ago and were made official by the European Parliament back in November. This has come at a loss for phone companies, who reported big losses after previous changes – all because we were being charged crazy prices.

Not just phoning/texting home from the Netherlands, but also if we’re travelling within the EU, it just got a whole lot cheaper to contact people.

Even to your furry friend

What did you think of the previous charges? Let us know in the comments.
