Anne Faber trial: Anne’s father wants Michael P. to never be released

The Anne Faber appeal takes place in Arnhem court today and Wednesday. An appeal by Michael. P has meant that the trial is going ahead and today Anne’s father says in court that he wants Michael P. to never be released, reports NOS.

Anne Faber’s father said in the appeal case today that he never wants Michael P. to be released, as it would be ‘unacceptable’. He said that the death penalty ‘doesn’t exist in the Netherlands, but if Michael P. decided to commit suicide, I won’t stop him’, reports NOS. You could only imagine the suffering that Anne’s family must have gone through over the years.

Why is the trial still ongoing?

You’re probably wondering why this case is still ongoing after a conviction last year.

Last year, Michael P. was sentenced to 28 years in prison and TBS for abducting, raping and killing Anne Fabber, however, he appealed the decision, which means that another trial must go on. According to NOS, he thought that his arrest was unjust (he was injured), judges were biased and the sentence was fixed – which is why he appealed.

Today her mother and father both spoke up in court. Anne’s missing jewellery (earrings and necklace) was also discussed in court, reports NOS. Despite a plead for the jewellery to be returned, Michael P. still said that we never saw her wearing any jewellery.

The trial will continue tomorrow.
