Code Yellow! Slipperiness and heavy wind gusts today

The KNMI has proclaimed code yellow for the whole country for Wednesday. Due to winter showers, it can become slippery locally. In the middle and East of the country, wet snow can remain and increase the chance of slipperiness by freezing up wet road sections.

In addition, the meteorological service warns of heavy gusts of wind during the day in the Western provinces. The wind comes from the Northwest direction and can reach speeds of 80 to 90 kilometers per hour.

Us today:

At Kerkrade and Landgraaf the countryside might turn white due to snowfall. This is also the case in the Northeast in the provinces of Groningen and Drenthe, where snow falls at temperatures of between 0 and 1 degree.

Traffic jams

Due to multiple collisions on the roads, it is twice as busy as normal during the morning rush hour, according to the ANWB.

The bustle is especially felt in the middle and East of the country. In the Randstad the traffic situation is comparable to that of a normal Wednesday morning. In Amsterdam the morning peak is even quieter than normal, according to the spokesman (that’s weird).

Storm’s coming to the Netherlands

On Thursday, the second storm of the year will hit our country. There are very heavy wind gusts of 100 to 125 kilometers per hour at sea and on the IJsselmeer expected. There is also a small chance of an official heavy storm in the Netherlands, with wind force 10.
