It’s official: Rutte is meeting Trump in Washington on July 2

Prime Minister Rutte will visit US President Trump on July 2. The spokespeople of Rutte report that it is an introductory meeting that includes “good relations, trade relations and mutual investments, and cooperation in the field of defense and security”.

Minister Kaag for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation travels to Washington as well and accompanies Rutte during the visit to the White House.

Rutte – Trump meeting was already in the books

It was already known that the two would meet each other. The exact program for the meeting between Trump and Rutte is not yet known, but certain topics will certainly be discussed, such as the economy and business, NATO and the international security situation.

Rutte recently mentioned Trump’s measures to introduce taxes on steel and aluminum from the European Union “very unwise” and “detrimental to the world trade system”. He called the decision of the American president to withdraw from the Iran deal “lomp” which roughly translates to coarse or crude.
