Flu epidemic sticking around longer than usual

The flu is still going!

It’s probably going to come to no surprise to some of us poor souls who have had to endure the flu this year, but it’s been sticking around way longer than it should have. On average, a flu epidemic lasts around 9 weeks. So far we are on the 18th week and it’s not entirely over yet, as there is an increase of people still getting the flu. That’s double the average so far!

All of us in the office…

What is a flu epidemic?

It is considered a flu epidemic if over 51/100,000 people have the flu for 2 weeks or more, consecutively. This is no longer a flu epidemic if the numbers ever drop below the 51. Well for 18 weeks now this number has been high enough to remain a flu epidemic. Urgh, poor us!

So far the record has not been broken for the consecutive weeks, so we’ll see. Hopefully it goes soon, because we’re all sick of it now (oh, so punny).

Any of you struggled with the flu this year? Let us know in the comments! I know the feels. Check our previous article out, for tips on how to try to prevent the flu.
