Yesterday morning in the Netherlands, a drunken groom on his wedding day was arrested after a crazy police chase, so he never made it to the altar. – And yes, this story is real.
Police wanted to check the driver, as he was driving with his wife-to-be in the car. He didn’t like that too much, so he drove off at high speed. It actually ended up being a wild police chase, which would have looked mad from outsiders (please don’t steal my wife!). Once he properly thought it was game over, he then jumped out of his car and ran, leaving his wifey-to-be still sat in the car. I imagine at this point she probably just accepted that the relationship just wasn’t going to work.
That or the wild-police-chase thing was just a weird wedding theme.
The Arrest
Eventually, he was found hiding in a garden and was finally arrested. He then thought he’d try his luck once more and try and assault the police from Leiden-North. By this point, you’re almost sure that he’s just trying anything to be put away for so long so that he doesn’t have to marry or see his bride again. His desperate plea not to be with this woman forever has worked, as the marriage is now postponed.
This is because he was drunk and disorderly, started a police chase, was drunk driving, assaulted officers and didn’t even have a driver’s license. That’s quite a lot of offences. That’s one wedding you couldn’t forget.
“I take you to be my lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until arrest do us part.” 😉
