The Netherlands is in for a warm Tuesday before the heat really cranks up later in the week.
How hot are we talking? Friday and the weekend are set to bring sweltering, tropical temperatures of up to 34 degrees Celsius.
Conditions will build steadily through the midweek before tipping into full summer mode by Friday. A brief burst of northern rain on Wednesday is the only thing standing between us and a balmy weekend on the terrasje.
Before the heat hits
First, we need to make it through the work week.
Today will be largely sunny and dry, with temperatures climbing to around 15 degrees in the north. Lucky ducks in Limburg, however, will be enjoying 25 degrees by mid-afternoon.
Wednesday will be more unsettled, with the north seeing some rain while central and southern regions stay mostly dry.
Still, the weather will be pleasant enough, with sunny spells set to push through by the afternoon. Temperatures will see highs of around 25 degrees in the southeast and 19 degrees near the Wadden Islands.
Friday and the weekend: we’re back in summer mode
Friday is when you should call in sick and head to the beach.
Tropical highs of 30 to 34 degrees are on the cards across most of the country, with Limburg likely seeing the highest temperatures.

However, it’s not all sunburn and Aperol Spritzes. Heavy thunderstorms are possible from Friday afternoon and could cause localised disruption (perhaps just stay away from roof terraces).
That heat rolls straight into the weekend, with readings anywhere from 24 degrees near the Wadden Islands to 32 degrees in the southeast.
High humidity will make the heat feel even more oppressive than those numbers suggest, so you’d better head to HEMA before those fans are sold out.
