Unilever is leaving London and coming to Rotterdam

Headquarters set for Rotterdam

Big news today: It has been announced today (Thursday), that Unilever is leaving London and bringing it’s headquarters to Rotterdam. Both countries hold a massive base, that partnered with one another. You may have seen the Unilever in Rotterdam, fitting right in with Rotterdam’s crazy, yet cool architecture.

After discussing the decision, it appears that it made the best sense, seeing as the UK is leaving the EU officially next year. Talks have been held since Brexit, yet Unilever deny that Brexit has anything to do with that decision. The UK think otherwise. I mean… you can’t blame them. Both Brexit and proposed Dutch tax changes would have influenced their final decision and it does make complete financial sense considering the circumstances.

Loss of jobs, loss of Marmite…

Brits everywhere are going to be gutted because Marmite prices are probably going to rise. Unfortunately, thousands of job losses are expected in the UK because of this decision (should move to Rotterdam like I did!)

Brits are going to lose their beloved Marmite moving to NL

We’ve already spoken in the past about how Brexit is good for the Netherlands and we have already spoken about how Brexit has resulted in the Netherlands gaining a ton of jobs. Mainly due to many businesses leaving London and getting spooked by the whole Brexit uncertainty. It appears that the news today just solidifies the issue that Britain is having and maybe we might see more businesses hopping across the water to join us. Congrats on the big news NL, but please stop stealing our jobs 😉
