One person has died, and multiple others have been injured during an explosion at the Port of Rotterdam.
According to Rijnmond, the explosion occurred at a storage tank at around noon, at the Gunvor Energy site on the Moezelweg.
Emergency services responded to the blast, and a trauma helicopter was also deployed.
Crew working on pipelines
A spokesperson has confirmed to Rijnmond that a crew were working on the pipelines at Gunvor when something may have gone wrong. As yet, the cause of the blast is still unknown.
However, there were other incidents in the port this morning, including a power outage in Botlek, and a power surge that led to a fire at a high-voltage substation on the Maasvlakte.
These incidents may be related to the tragedy.
