A tour bus carrying German high school students was involved in a serious accident with a delivery van last night on the A28 near Wezep in Gelderland.
According to NOS, there were more than 50 people on board the coach, including the schoolchildren, when it rear-ended the van at around 4:15 AM.
The coach then swerved before crashing on its side on the other side of the road. The delivery van was split in two by the collision.
Eight people taken to hospital
Police report that eight people were taken from the scene to hospital, some of whom are seriously injured. The driver of the van is amongst those in hospital.
Several others sustained minor injuries, mostly caused by the glass from the windows.
A28 closed until evening rush hour
The NOS reports that the A28 is closed in both directions while an investigation is underway. The Rijkswaterstaat expects it will remain closed until the evening rush hour.
As a result, morning commuters in the area are experiencing delays.
