Brits in NL might be crying today…
Oh boy, what a ride it’s been in the UK this week. First of all, we were FINALLY getting somewhere with Brexit (which is devastating enough for most of us as it is), then people start resigning out of anger, such as Boris Johnson (Foreign Secretary). Then England at one point was 20 minutes away from winning the semi-final against Croatia and ballsed it at the end (and not to forget all the football hooliganism). The ‘British summer’ has come to an end and now Trump is visiting the UK today (causing mass-protest). Phew… now breathe. Brits in the Netherlands are now finding sanctuary in this little windmill country, and you can see why.
Is that the sound of British tears I can hear?
…what I actually looked like last night. Now I’m hungover and shamed.
Trump visits the UK
Trump is visiting the UK today for 2 days, to meet Theresa May and the Queen (and of course to go to his golf course up in Scotland). Let’s just say that a lot of Brits weren’t happy about this visit. In fact, there is going to be mass-protest across the country, with Scotland planning on holding their largest demonstration in its history. Let’s just say there is more police out there than ever before.
You only have to look on Twitter to see everyone getting in the Trump-hating spirit.
The best thing you can do here in the u.k to protest Trump’s visit, is join one of the many, many organised events near you. Simply search into google or Facebook “trump protest__” foll in blank with the nearest city to you! Show Trump that the u.k does not welcome him!#trumpuk

Balloons that aren’t child-friendly…
Demonstrations weren’t enough. Once they’d finish their cup of tea, they thought “what could really p*ss the president off?” They took their Spotify accounts to listen to ‘American Idiot’ by Greenday, to bring it back to the charts. Then the conclusion was to fund-raise a giant balloon of Trump as a baby. And no, this is not even fake news (who even thinks of these ideas?!)
It’s about as British as you can get, but a lot of people have been calling it ‘childish’ (um, who we talkin’ about now?) and ’embarrassing.’ (I’m childish too – no shame). It is. It really, really is. Sadiq Khan, the London mayor even agreed to allow it. Now it’s ended up with a balloon-off, with Trump supporters fund-raising a giant baby balloon of Sadiq Khan. Pretty soon we are going to have a whole army of balloons. The news doesn’t get any more ridiculous than this.
I just have visions of being on a delayed plane back to the Netherlands with the captain saying, “Sorry for the delay, but a giant Donald Trump and Sadiq Khan baby has been let loose into the sky and it’s disturbing our flight path.” From one Brit in NL to another: what is 2018.
