Last call and final week for the IAMSTERDAM letters

The IAMSTERDAM sign will be removed from the Museumplein. But fear not! This will only be temporary. Here is why and when.

IAMSTERDAM sign to be removed from the Museumplein

The popular IAMSTERDAM sign will be removed from the Museumplein. This news came out today to the absolute horror of tourists who have no way of proving they’ve ever been to Amsterdam if not for a photo at the infamous sign. But fear not, my dear tourists, the disappearance of the sign will only be temporary. It turns out that the letters will only be removed for Sinterklaas, and not for good as the largest party in the Amsterdam city council, GroenLinks, had previously proposed.

For how long will the IAMSTERDAM sign be gone and where can we find it?

The IAMSTERDAM sign in front of the Museumplein will be put away on the 3rd or 4th of December, and will be gone for a total of 3 weeks. In its place, there will be ‘hosts’ helping disappointed tourists and explaining why the letters are no longer there. They will also be giving tourists instructions on where the sign can still be seen. At the moment there are several sets in circulation, one of which is at Schiphol Airport.

Amsterdam Tourists
Tourism is turning into a major problem for many citizens of Amsterdam
