Primary schools to potentially reopen on January 25, says Dutch cabinet

The Dutch cabinet is looking for safe ways to open up daycare and primary schools again on January 25. This will depend on what research reveals about how the new coronavirus strain affects children.

A major outbreak of the new strain in a school in Bergschenhoek has raised suspicions that young children are especially susceptible to this mutation. Cabinet is waiting for advice from the Outbreak Management Team (OMT) to clarify if this is the case.

If it appears that the risk to children is acceptable, the government will aim to reopen schools for younger children on January 25. Regardless, the rest of education will remain closed until February 9, reports NOS.

In the municipality of Lansingerland, where the Bergschenhoek school outbreak occurred, all residents over two years of age will be tested for the virus in the coming period.

  1. I am an expat and my son is in group 2 international school…I think it could be made voluntary…as being an expat we have no car and we use public transportation for school drop and pick up.
I think we should be allowed to keep our kids home….and from where I go the bus is full due to all the parents dropping their kids to school

  2. Yes, reopening schools will definitely affect us. Here we are trying so hard from last February to be away from infections and this government is so pathetic and making every other day new stupid rules and trying to kill innocents. No humanity left in this government!
Not everything is about money. Our future generation is in danger healthwise. Strict school education can wait. We parents are here to teach our kids with basic survival education. So why worries?!
And above all, government should treat foreign crowd differently. Not everybody think like dutch. For me, health is priority. Education, I can superbly handle it for my child. I have the right to decide whats best for my child. So reopening schools is a bad idea. And also compulsory education act must be suspended for a while.
