Netherlands – England was yesterday and it was a shocker! (except the match)

British fans in Amsterdam – Always a pleasure

Nobody could have been looking forward that much to the friendly exhibition of the Netherlands versus England in the Arena in Amsterdam that was played yesterday. Nobody in the Netherlands and least, as it was far too soon for the new Holland coach Ronald Koeman to have fixed our streak of lackluster performances. The English, however, did not disappoint, coming to our capital and doing what they’re known for all over the world for years on end. Let’s have a look at some vintage moves by our English friends in a few tweets we saw.

The Highlights of Netherlands – England

#1 Classic dive into the canal

Fairly standard move when good old Johnny, cheered on by his primal mates, takes off his shirt and dives, without hesitation, into the canal. Sheer guts and glory there! It’s the stuff you tell your grandchildren.

#2 The beer shower

Another classic from the playbook. Without even asking the English lads share their drinks with the innocent people on the boat. Such grace and friendliness!

#3 England’s finest hour!

Here can you see why these decent people just HAD to vote for Brexit. They’re just standing there enjoying one or two Heineken’s when all of a sudden the brutal Dutch police charges them without any provocation. Our English friends show a valiant retreat, especially that part where they all tumble and fall over a few classy Amsterdam scooters.

#4 Highlight of the Match

Obviously, this vintage pre-match display was not the only thing noteworthy of yesterday night. There was a match as well! Here’s the absolute (and only highlight) of that one:

All in all, we had a great time! Next time, you English might want to take a bierfiets through town or hit on our Dutch girls, they might have a thing for overweight gingers without their shirts on!

He has a Masters in Political Science and IT but somewhere always wanted to study history or good old football. He also a mortgage in the Netherlands and will happily tell you too how to get one. Born and raised in Rotterdam, Abuzer now lives in Leiden but is always longing back to his own international year in Italy.
