Parking dispute in Amsterdam ends with delivery driver being tasered by police (video inside!)

There's more to the story, police claim

What started as a regular Thursday delivering parcels ended with the driver being tasered to the ground, a trip to the police station, and several fines.

According to AT5, the incident occurred at around 3:30 PM yesterday, down Amsterdam’s Runstraat. The delivery driver in question had allegedly blocked the road with his van while unloading packages.

After he refused to move the van, the situation escalated into an argument. Then, footage shows a police officer approaching the man and tasering him to the ground.

Why did a parking issue escalate this badly?

Well, as a police spokesperson tells AT5, the man had parked his van in a place he wasn’t supposed to. The officer then asked him to move it so traffic could get through, but the driver reportedly refused.

When the officer tried to arrest him, the spokesperson alleges that the driver didn’t cooperate, and the officer ended up reaching for his taser.

However, when AT5 reviewed the submitted footage, they reported that “neither video showed an escalating situation”.

Bystanders weren’t having it

In the clips that have surfaced online, several bystanders can be heard voicing their outrage. One woman shouts: “You can’t just taser someone. Have you gone completely mad?”

The police, unsurprisingly, see things differently. Speaking to the NOS, a spokesperson claims that the footage shows only a fraction of the full picture.

According to the spokesperson, the officer had no choice but to use his taser, and that the escalation may well have happened before anyone hit record on their devices.

The delivery driver has since been released from the police station after receiving several fines.
