This weekend, the Netherlands had to batten down the hatches and brace for storm Boelo. So far, there has been one fatality and one person reported missing.
According to NH Nieuws, a man has been killed in Amsterdam after being hit by a falling tree while cycling along the Sloterweg.
Emergency services responded at around 5:20 PM yesterday evening, after the man was found lying with his bicycle under the fallen tree. While a trauma helicopter did respond, the man was found to have already died.
The police will not release any further information about the man while an investigation is ongoing.
Water sports enthusiast missing from Scheveningen
Emergency services also responded to reports of a water sports enthusiast (it is not clear whether they were a wind or water surfer) going missing on Scheveningen yesterday at 2 PM.
Rescue boats from Scheveningen, Katwijk aan Zee, Noordwijk aan Zee, and Ter Heijde searched along the coast, and a helicopter and Coast Guard aircraft were deployed.
However, the search operation was suspended yesterday evening, Nu.nl reports, with the safety region saying that it was impossible to continue safely searching once darkness fell.
The search will continue this morning.
