Driver arrested after hitting 240 km/h on Dutch motorway

Where were they going?

A driver was arrested Sunday morning after racing down the A2 motorway at nearly 240 km/h, reports NOS.

Connecting Amsterdam to Eindhoven via Utrecht, the A2 is one of the busiest motorways in the Netherlands — with a speed limit of 100 km/h.

Ignored police and drove on

The driver’s Mercedes was caught on a speed camera.

According to De Telegraaf, when police gave the driver a stop signal, he ignored it.

The abandoned Mercedes was later found in the Dutch town of Houten, with the suspect arrested after being spotted in another vehicle.

His license has now been revoked, and his Mercedes has been seized, with a report to be filed with the Central Bureau for Driving Licenses.

We get it, life can be busy. But is losing your license — and your Mercedes — really worth it? Turns out you can’t outrun a speed camera, even at 240 km/h.

Do you think losing their car and license was a fair consequence? Let us know in the comments.
