Four children killed after a terrible collision between a train and cargo bike

Terrible news from Oss: in a collision between an electric cargo bike and a train, four children were killed. Another child and an adult were also seriously injured, reports the police.

What happened in Oss?

The accident happened shortly after half-past eight at a guarded railway crossing on the Braakstraat, near Oss West station. What made it all go so terribly wrong is not yet clear. In the electric tricycle, a so-called ‘Stint’, children of a children daycare were sitting, eyewitnesses and employees of other day-care centers told the NIS.

Here’s a clip about the Stint, not from that particular daycare:

Trains interrupted

On the railway in Oss, there are slow trains and intercity trains from Nijmegen to Den Bosch. There is a cycle path next to the road. The train traffic is quiet until 11:30.

Maxima and Rutte response

As you can imagine, everybody is struck by this tragic accident. Here are the responses by Queen Maxima and Prime minister Rutte:

He has a Masters in Political Science and IT but somewhere always wanted to study history or good old football. He also a mortgage in the Netherlands and will happily tell you too how to get one. Born and raised in Rotterdam, Abuzer now lives in Leiden but is always longing back to his own international year in Italy.
