After an unseasonably warm first week of October, the Netherlands is in for some proper autumn weather, with rain showers, gusting winds, and temperatures around 15 degrees Celsius.
According to a weather report by Buienradar, the southerly wind that’s been giving us such nice late-summer weather will soon shift to a more westerly flow. Rain from the Atlantic Ocean will move in, along with much cooler winds.
What does the rest of the week look like?
Where Tuesday was mild, with temperatures of around 21 degrees Celsius, Wednesday is shaping up to be much gloomier. Expect more cloud cover, and don’t forget your umbrella because rain will likely follow.
Thursday is forecast to offer much of the same, with even more frequent showers, stronger winds, and temperatures of around 15 degrees.
So does this mean we’re locked in for mushy, grey, and cold weather the rest of October? Well, while the weather will grow colder and more changeable, Buienradar notes that long-term forecasts are too “volatile” to make any promises.
In addition to “periods of calmer weather”, forecasts also offer indications of “new disturbances” to the routine.
Nazomer could make a comeback
From around October 20, forecasts suggest that low-pressure systems will head towards the Mediterranean more often, where they could drop a lot of rain. Meanwhile, a high-pressure system seems likely to form over western Russia.
Should this high-pressure system grow strong enough and settle into the right spot, it could influence weather patterns in the Netherlands. In this case, we’d likely experience another brief taste of nazomer, with drier weather and more sunshine.
However, whether we’d actually feel any warmer depends on the wind.
A southerly or southeasterly wind could carry mild air back to us, while wind from the east or northeast could make things noticeably chillier.
