Hottest Day Ever in the Netherlands – AGAIN! Record Broken Second Day in a Row

Sweltering temperatures in the European heatwave have caused the Netherlands to break the hottest temperature on record two days in a row. The temperature maxed out at 39.1°C yesterday, but reached 39.5°C today.

Yesterday the record for the Netherlands hottest day ever on record was smashed when the small town of Gilze en Rijen recorded a staggering 39.1°C. However, today it got even hotter when the same town beat out the record by an additional .4°C.

Who said that climate change wasn’t real? The stale heat outside and menacing temperatures over the past few days have confined all the Netherlands to their homes, canals, and local swimming pools. We’re half-expecting a tumbleweed to drift by any minute now.

Everyone thought we broke 40°C

The media went crazy this afternoon when the small village of Deelen in the country’s central east recorded temperatures of 40°C and 42°C. However, the weather bureau ruled the temperatures invalid. We’re sure the citizens of Deelen don’t mind that!

Weerplaza noted that in the twenty minutes after the initial recording the temperature rose as high as 42.9°C. In a tweet they said that the rises were physically not possible.

Well, a record is a record – but all we know is that it’s bloody hot out there!

How are you dealing with the heatwave? Feel like we’ve broken the record, yet again? Let us know in the comments below!

  1. Yesterday we went to the front yard, under the shade of a pear tree, and had a few beers. There was a slight breeze from the fields so it was fine…

Inside temperatures are also doable; the bedroom is on the ground floor, windows facing East, with thick curtains so the temperature pretty much stays below 25 degrees Celsius. The hottest room is the living room (with windows facing both South and West) with temperatures almost reaching 30 degrees, but we have a fan so that’s not too bad either.

Keeping all curtains, windows and doors closed during the days and try to do the opposite in the evenings/nights and early mornings when the outside temp is below 25 degrees.

So far manageable! I refuse to complain – the horrid November weathers will soon come too…
