We’ve been waiting for this bit of weather news and it’s finally happening. Every single week the weather reports ‘chance of storms’ and it’s the clearest day of your life. Well, it’s actually going to happen now and it’s a code orange!
(It is measured by code yellow, orange and red, with this weather being ranked in the middle).
If you’re like me, who is completely baffled by this (it’s so sunny right now!), then yes, it’s apparently true (just look at all the weather apps if you don’t believe us! Rotterdam right now, is clear blue skies and lovely as hell. But that’s all about to change by this evening.
When you’re sure that the thunderbolt just touched the frickin window.
Rain will begin shortly, with code orange storms beginning at around 3pm – in some areas, this will arrive later on tonight. This warning applies to Zeeland, Noord-Brabant, Gelderland, South Holland, Utrecht and Limburg. So if you’re living in any of these provinces, it’s going to get wet very shortly.
Risk of flooding
A little bit of rain you ask? A LOT OF RAIN. So much rain is expected in some areas, that it’s going to fall 1 and a half times as much as the usual rain measurement in a whole month, for this time of year. It could also hail (somehow?!). So that’s like 100mm of rain being dumped on your doorstep (Limburg has been flooded already).
This gif is funny until you realise she’s just hit her head full pelt and lost ALL THAT SHOPPING (oh my Christ, what if Milka was in there).
As you can imagine, this is likely to cause some flooding (luckily and hopefully not as bad as the gif). Weather like this really tests water management systems in the Netherlands.
Looks like we can bang on about how weird the weather has been this year (DutchReview loves to do that). And don’t forget to post your thundery pictures in the comments (inside though please, don’t go out unless you have to, it’s going to be horrible out there). And don’t forget to join our Facebook group whilst you’re here!
