Snow in Holland – Bring your Camera!

We already warned you last week about the cold gradually sweeping in, well – the next stop is here! This weekend snow is coming and if you happen to be in a picturesque city like Amsterdam, you really want to bring a camera! (Or just your phone, cheapskate!)

Can”t beat this one, a happy snow dog in the snow. Makes me instantly happy! Great pic by Tiffany Lai

Thursday to Monday – Days of Chaos

In case the weekends aren’t chaotic to begin with anyway (you binge drinker you) they will have an extra, bonus challenge the coming days – massive rain and snowfall.

Starting Thursday we will see harsh rainfall starting in the afternoon then follow swiftly by cold, cold air – so make sure you don’t get wet and cold! Friday the temperatures won’t be rising above 4 Celsius tops, starting Friday afternoon it’s likely that the first snow will make its appearance – but you probably won’t be able to build a snowman in likeness of Trump to pee on just yet. The first snow will likely be wet snow and/or hail – so mind your steps because you haven’t seen slippery until you’ve hit the streets of Holland after wet snow and hail.

Starting Saturday there will likely be “real” snowfall, the kind that lasts, after a whole series of snowstorms will follow each other up in rapid succession – likely to pack the areas hit by it into a nice blanket of snow. So, with some luck, the weekend will be fun in the snow!

It also looks like Monday will be very chaotic – once temperatures start to rise your Trump snow puppet will start to melt down and begin disrupting everything, just like the real one, and serious traffic jams and public transportation delays are to be anticipated. Again, also be sure to be careful yourself, we know that our otherwise lovely Southern-European and North-American visitors love to jump onto a bike with nil experience – bringing their own chaos with them – but now especially won’t be the time to do so! Even the Dutch, who on average could ride a bike as part of a circus act from infancy on, struggle when it’s slippery and busy, don’t take the risk!

Trust us, it’s better sightseeing with all your extremities working over spending hours in the sick bay with a piece of bone sticking out, unless that’s your thing. Then go for it…

Snowy Leiden is just pure magic!

This pittoresque Dutch city in the snow is just the best thing you will see today! (Very nicely done by SonicDrone)

Oh, and if you like that cover photo of our article, it’s Leiden shot by Vincent Mullenders – and you can totally buy books and calendars of his work! Read up right here!
