Aah the Dutch and their thirst for exploration. Houston, this is the Netherlands calling, and we have found 300,000 new galaxies!
They were discovered by the Netherlands-based Low Frequency Array (LOFAR), a monumental radio telescope network. This telescope is designed to detect low radio frequencies which could not have been picked up by other telescope. They found radiation which are formed when galaxies are combining.
There is a team of more than 200 astronomers from 18 countries working with this telescope and survey, which has data and research to explore many areas including the physics of black holes, and how clusters of galaxies are formed and evolve.

In their press release, ASTRON said they are excited for what this telescope will bring in terms of advancement in the study of black holes, clusters of galaxies, magnetic fields, and more. They have made high quality images of these galaxies which are available for everybody to us for their own research.
