Boy (10) calls Dutch police after fighting with other kids on playground

He had a stern conversation with officers

Ever felt so wronged after a quarrel with friends that you think “That’s it, I’m calling the police”? Well, one 10-year-old boy in the municipality of Bladel felt it was time to get the authorities involved.

Police officers from Bergeijk took to their Instagram story to tell the tale, Omroep Brabant reports.

The boy reportedly dialled 112 after fighting with other children on the playground. In the Netherlands, it’s a punishable offence if someone calls the emergency services for something other than, well, an emergency.

A stern talking to with his mother

In the case of a child calling the police, they’re not going to end up behind bars. However, the boy had to sit through a disciplinary conversation with his mother and community police officers.

According to the officers, “She was completely on our side.”

Next time, they suggest leaving it to the parents to sort. “In the event of a quarrel between children, we consider it more of a task for parents to resolve it together.” Fair enough.
