It was just some 2 years ago when Mubarak stepped down from his presidential throne and the world saw some of the best rioting footage ever (it involved camel squads!) coming from the Tahrir-square. Most of the Dutch politicians and writers rejoiced, away with the evil dictator and his corrupt cronies! Finally, real democracy could establish itself in Egypt. Gay rights would be respected, people would solve their differences through boring dialog, moderate Muslims would live in peace with the Christians. What could go wrong? And why on earth had we supported Mubarak in all those years?! Even sending in the camel forces wasn’t enough apparently.

Well, after full on rioting this week between the Christians and Muslims , the trial against Egypt’s Jon Stewart – Bassem Youssef –  and countless other stuff we don’t like. The Dutch hope finally broke down today: a Dutch journalist arrested in Egypt arrested for espionage activities! (Okay, she’s freed a few minutes ago, but let’s not get that detail in the way of this article). They might as well start attacking Israel and burn the Dutch flag while they are at it. Guess that Arab spring isn’t the popular hipster thing in Holland anymore now.
