You thought it was over? We thought so too! But Mother Nature thinks different since there’s some snowfall coming to the Netherlands on Friday (tomorrow, and just missing Christmas – just our luck)
The weather for Friday
On Friday, one to three centimeters of snow will fall in some parts of the country. Especially in the North and East of the Netherlands there is a chance of snowfall.
According to Weerplaza, Friesland, Drenthe, Groningen, Gelderland, Overijssel and parts of Flevoland have a chance of light snow. Especially in higher-up places, such as the ‘Veluwe’, the snow can actually be expected to remain for a while. Might just be a good time to visit the Veluwe?
From 12.00 pm the precipitation enters the country, around 4 pm all this weather will reach the East. The weather station also reports that there may already be wintery showers on Thursday.
However, the snow will not last long, because the temperature is already rising to five degrees on Friday evening. At the weekend the temperatures rise to a fair ten to twelve degrees. So no freezing to death on New Year’s Eve!
2017: a Warm year
WeerOnline announced Thursday that 2017 is the 4th warmest year ever measured. The average temperature in the Netherlands was 10.9 degrees this year. Normally this is around 10.1 degrees. Only in 2006, 2007 and 2014 was it even warmer. In terms of heat, June clearly stood out this year.
After the heat, rain often followed this year. On average there was 947 millimeters of rainfall in the entire country, almost 100 millimeters more than the usual 849 millimeters. With 1765 hours of sunshine, compared with 1639 hours of normal, this was also a sunny year.
