Police in Enschede have taken to Instagram to show a “skinny bike” that they confiscated from a young boy. Except, it wasn’t even really a bike anymore. It had a throttle, and could reach speeds of 120 km/h.
For those who may be confused, a “skinny bike” is essentially fat bike manufacturers’ answer to potential legislation against fatbikes.
As the name suggests, it’s basically a fatbike, but skinnier.
Found among a group of youths
Enschede’s police write on Instagram that they found the bike when they approached a group of youths on fatbikes.
The city has introduced a ban on fatbikes in the centre during shop opening hours, however they didn’t say where exactly they encountered the youths.
According to police, one boy tried to flee, but was apprehended. When police looked at his bike, they saw just how deadly it was.
Instead of pedals, the “bike” now had a throttle. When police when to test just how fast the bike could go, it proved it can be just as speedy as a car on a motorway — minus, the safety of a bumper and airbags.
The bike was subsequently taken by police and will be destroyed, they write. The owner will also be receiving a hefty fine. Someone’s parents are not going to be happy.
