Big mistakes were made in the treatment of Anne Fabers murderer Michael. P

A new report from the Dutch Safety Board, that was referred to by De Volkskrant suggests that Michael P. was not treated for sexual offences. Michael P. raped and killed 25-year-old Anne Faber during his stay at a psychiatric clinic.

Michael P. was not treated in relation to his sex crimes, even though in 2012 Michael P. was convicted of raping two underage girls before raping and murdering Anne Faber back in 2017. The Dutch Safety Board (OVV) says in a report that in the 4 years that Michael P. was treated there, risk assessments never took into consideration the likelihood of him reoffending like that.

Devastating mistakes were made

Dutch privacy legislation meant that when he was transferred to the psychiatric institution in Den Dolder, after a few years in Vught, Michael P. did not want his medical file to be shared in relation to his sex crimes (and so it wasn’t). This later affected his risk assessment.
Instead, Micheal P. was treated for his aggression and this is why he was able to have liberties that he really shouldn’t have had. For example, after only 6 weeks in the new clinic, he was able to go into the village without any supervision.

If he was in treatment for his sex crimes specifically, Michael P. likely would not have been allowed to roam in the grounds of the institution.

It’s crazy how this was allowed to happen and sadly, this has happened at the expense of Anne Faber. Michael P. was sentenced to 28 years, with compulsory treatment for the rape and murder of Anne last year.
