Wilders to become the Dutch ambassador to Turkey

In a surprise move on Sunday 1st April, the Netherlands has appointed Geert Wilders as its ambassador to the Republic of Turkey. The decision, which was reportedly made by Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, has been praised for its magnanimity. Following the municipal election on the 18th of March, the move has been seen as a gesture of peace to bring the defeated PVV leader in from the cold.

Following discussions in The Hague this afternoon, Wilders is expected to fly to Ankara with a one-way ticket later in the day.

Reacting to the news, a spokesman for the Turkish Presidency declared: “Finally, someone we can work with!”

Erdogan: finally another strong man with the same contempt for the lying media!

Bold but wise move

At a press conference at noon today, a spokeswoman for the Dutch Prime Minister said that the decision had been made after a long period of consideration.

“Our diplomatic relations with Turkey have been strained of late, as is well known. The delicate nature of our bilateral ties was considered to require the soft, empathetic touch that only Geert Wilders can provide. Due to his numerous appearances outside the Turkish embassy in The Hague, he is also well known to the Turkish authorities, which can only be a plus.”

The spokeswoman distanced herself from unsubstantiated claims that an unnamed source in Rutte’s cabinet had allegedly claimed “literally no one else wanted the job.”

As you can see, Wilders is diving head first into the job and has already recorded a message for the Turks:

It is as of yet unclear if Wilders will return on King’s Day in order to meet Donald Trump.

  1. What a fake news. Wilders is member of the Dutch Parliament and leader of his party, the PVV.
He would never give up that position and he would never go for such a position and the Government wouldn’t allow him to be ambassador of a country like Turkey.
