‘Your passport is your train ticket’, Dutch train service tells Ukrainian refugees

The Dutch national railway line (NS) has taken a stance in support of Ukrainian solidarity against the Russian invasion.

Ukrainian refugees can use their passport or ID cards as a free ticket to board any NS train to the Netherlands, the official NS website announced yesterday.

Ukrainians can collect a free day pass at any NS Ticket or Service Counter by showing their identity papers. German or Austrian train tickets will also be accepted as long as they are not older than 24 hours.

The NS says that it wants to make the journey through Europe “as convenient as possible” this way.

What do you think about this act of Ukrainian solidarity by the NS? Tell us in the comments!

  1. Good afternoon I am in Woerden, I am a foreign student from Ukraine, I was in Ukraine for 3 years and I came to Holland to keep my studies and work, my current situation I don’t have money and and I have my Ukrainian Identification card, I was poorly attended from the train service 3 times even showing my identification, and I had request people for help to buy a ticket for me, when I was trying to go to Utrecht, and trying to go Woerden.

The first time I was attended by a woman on the Utrecht central, I showed her my full documentation and my Ukrainian permit card bad she told me to get out of the line because I don’t have the Ukrainian passport, I felt ashamed so I went out of tickets attendant, and I went outside and I chose to request people if they could help me and I was helped.
Why? I have not received my Dutch Identification document the (BSN), I have been told to wait, I am not able to work without, where will get money to pay for the tickets to use the train?, and I have no money, why was I so poorly attended?

    • The other time I tried to use the call service, the first 2 people that picked the call they requested me the passport, I said I don’t have but I have my Ukrainian identification ID, and they said they will not help and just shut the call on me, it happened in Woerden, but the 3 person that picked the phone he managed to help me
