13-year-old arrested following discovery of two bodies in Groningen

The investigation is ongoing.

A married couple, both 53, were found dead in their home in Meerstad in the municipality of Groningen overnight. Police have now arrested the couple’s 13-year-old daughter as a suspect.

According to NOS, officers discovered the two bodies at around 2:45 AM, and the girl was detained a short while later. Police are currently treating the case as a crime, and haven’t speculated about a possible motive.

What do police know so far?

For now, very little has been made public. Speaking with NOS, a police spokesperson said tactical and forensic work is underway at the property.

Investigators also plan to speak with the suspect. For now, she is being held in isolation, meaning she is not allowed contact with anyone other than her lawyer.

A dog was found inside the home and was collected early in the morning by the animal ambulance service.

One resident on the street where the couple lived said she heard a very loud bang during the night, though she noted it may have been the police entering the property.
