Just when you thought you’d survived it, the tropical heat is plotting a comeback next week.
Forecaster Weeronline reckons widespread tropical temperatures could return to the Netherlands in early July, only days after the country survived its hottest stretch in years.
The good news is that we get a brief spell of gentler weather first.
So if you spent last week glued to your office chair in a puddle of sweat, take the breather while you can.
Where the next burst of heat comes from
A fresh pool of warm air is currently gathering over southwestern Europe. There’s a good chance it will drift towards the Netherlands around the weekend.
If it does, tropical temperatures could be back on a large scale by the early part of next week.
In other words: the sweating is on pause, not finished.
Your few days of relief
Right now things feel far kinder than the furnace we just lived through, with daytime highs down by 10 to 15 degrees from last week’s peaks.

The reason is a northwesterly wind dragging cooler, drier air across the country. That lower humidity is what makes it feel pleasant rather than punishing.
Weeronline meteorologist Berend van Straaten sums up the coming days as ordinary Dutch summer weather. That means around 22 degrees by the sea, 23 to 24 in the centre of the country, and a warmer 25 to 28 in the southeast.
The rest of the working week should stay dry too, with sun and cloud taking turns and maximums sitting between 20 and 25 degrees.
Make the most of the open windows and cool nights while they’re here.
