As many have been swift to point out online, every year when 9/11 rolls around, Donald Trump changes his story to become more of a hero.
Dutch satirist Arjen Lubach has the receipts, and he’s not holding back, in a new video released earlier today.
“First he [Trump] watched it on TV, then he said he was an eyewitness,” Lubach notes, “then he sent people to help, then HE was the one helping. And now, apparently, two firefighters saved his life.”
Here’s Trump’s latest story
Speaking at a White House event honouring first responders for the September 11 attack, Trump claims he was carried out of a building when the nearby One Liberty Plaza started to creak, threatening collapse.
And it’s not the first time Trump has run with this story before, reports PBS. The news agency writes that Trump “long talked about his 9/11 response, saying he spent a lot of time at Ground Zero and brought hundreds of workers to aid in the recovery effort”.
Needless to say, this is a claim that Poynter Institute’s PolitiFact swiftly debunks.
If Trump had indeed sent hundreds of workers as relief, “there would be a record of it”, New York Fire Department battalion chief Richard Alles tells PolitiFact. “I was in a supervisory role with the fire department at the time. I was there for several months — I have no knowledge of his being down there.”
In fact, the earliest confirmed footage of Trump near the site is from two days after the attack, on September 13, 2001.

Comedian Lubach holds no punches, cutting right to the heart of Trump’s ever-changing story: “Every year, the story gets bigger. And somehow, Trump becomes more of a hero.”
