QR codes to enter stores? Dutch retail willing to implement this and more

With rumours circulating that the hard lockdown will not lift on January 14, non-essential stores are pleading to open their doors — and they’ll implement any measure if it means they can.

Brand collective INretail tells nu.nl, that their associates are willing to do whatever is necessary — checking for proof of vaccination, making masks mandatory inside or only allowing a limited number of customers per square metre — if it means they can reopen.

End of lockdown uncertain

This is a change of heart from just two months prior when INretail said a mask mandate would be “unaffordable, non-enforceable and unworkable.”

But with the Netherlands sitting steadily in a hard lockdown for almost a month now, non-essential stores are struggling.

Up until new measures are announced next week, it is uncertain whether or not the hard lockdown will be lifted.

Would you whip out your QR-code for a quick shopping spree? Tell us in the comments!

  1. I’m german living in NL. Currently I in Germany and it’s no problem at all to show your QR code. Some malls or city centers are handing put wrist bands so you only have to show proof once. It’s not the best case but at least stores can open again and the cities don’t die out

  2. I don’t mind AT ALL! I actually appreciate it. It’s a small price to pay to be able to go to a store. My butcher and Fis boer, en kaas boor, etc. all do it!! And, i certainly don’t mind wearing a mask. With this very spreadable variant, it’s foolish to NOT wear one! My opinion, of course.

  3. I would show my QR code including booster shot anywhere, in fact I would feel safer if I and other customers have to do this. Actually I will avoid any business not asking this.

  4. “making masks mandatory inside”.

As far as I knew, this is already in place from a while… maybe am I wrong… ?

  5. Of course I will, I am for 2G.

Including compulsory facemasks in closed environment, I am tired to hear “menheer, ik heb asma!”, like if there were also a special pandemic of asma in NL!

  6. Many other EU countries require QR codes in stores. No problem at all and it saves local shops! Let’s do it!

    • You realize vaccines don’t prevent transmission of the virus, so you’re still spreading it? Order things online if you care about others so much.

    • Sure thing !!!!
People who don’t take vacines only think about themselves, so they can stay at home, the whole economy will brake like this!

  7. In Australië QR code’s are used everywhere, most non essential businesses like to protect their staff for getting sick, it’s up to the individual shop owner, also mask wearing is compulsory inside, it’s for everyone’s protection.

  8. Vaccines will not stop the virus,
masks will not stop the virus, and the willingness of people to continue to follow the rules and obey are keeping everyone in this dystopian nightmare.
It stops when we all say no.

  9. I’m very sorry for these businesses owners, but no I’ll never enter a store showing a QR code. Some people think that the use of a QR and therefore having the entire population vaccinated is the only way to achieve freedom and a decent way of living again. I’m speechless in front of how much trust these people are putting in a government and a pharmaceutical industry (I’m not talking about nurses and regular doctors) that have been PROVEN far too many times to prefer profit rather than people’s wellbeing.
