Experts advise to work from home tomorrow as horrible weather hits the Netherlands

The Royal Dutch Weather Institute (KNMI) has issued a code yellow warning due to turbulent weather coming our way. It applies to the whole of the Netherlands on the evening of January 11, and to the coastal provinces the next morning.

Conditions are expected to be so bad that experts advise people to work from home as much as possible, writes AD. 🌧️

Lightning does strike the same place twice

First, rain showers will start in the West of the country around 6 PM. From there, they will migrate across the country and reach the German border by 9 PM.

From 8 PM onwards, we can expect heavy thunderstorms, hail, rain, and wind gusts of up to 100 kilometres per hour. 😳

By midnight, most of the turbulence will have passed the Netherlands — but to the Western half of the country, it’s set to return the next morning.

In all provinces but Brabant, Limburg, Gelderland, Overijssel and Drenthe, code yellow still applies on the morning of January 12 due to strong winds.

Take cover

Although there will be no more thunderstorms on the morning of January 12, the code yellow warning is valid until 10 AM.

Due to winds of up to 90 kilometres per hour, experts advise people to work from home as much as they can on Thursday. 💨

“If you do have to hit the road, keep in mind that driving conditions during a heavy downpour are different,” they warn.

Thousands sign petition against shooting stray cats in Friesland

A petition has been signed by thousands against shooting and killing stray cats in Friesland, the only province in the Netherlands to still be shooting cats.

The Animal & Justice activist group, Dier & Recht, is calling out to the province to stop this horrible act. “It’s unnecessary, cruel, and outdated,” the NOS reports.

Protection of birds

In 2021, Friesland killed over 250 cats and 447 the year before. The province’s main argument for shooting cats is to protect meadow birds. 🐦

Board member of the Association of Frisian Birdwatches, Titus Sijmonsma, states, “They are robbers in the field, lust killers. Once they start, they don’t stop.”

Shooting stray cats is allowed under Dutch law with Friesland being the last of the 12 Dutch provinces continuing the practice.

A humane approach

The action group argues that there are other ways than shooting cats, such as using pet-friendly methods.

These include catching, neutering, and chipping, before relocating them to farms.

The action group acknowledges the decrease in meadow birds, but according to them, stray cats aren’t the issue.

Dier & Recht vet, Kelly Kessen, reported to AD, “Yes, cats catch birds, but they would rather catch rats and mice. So if you castrate a cat, you have largely solved the problem.”

Treasure hunters are still digging for potential Nazi treasure despite ban in Ommeren

Several warnings have been issued by the police to stop the treasure hunters.

You might already have heard about the enthusiastic treasure hunters, whose first reaction was to strap their metal detectors upon hearing that the Dutch National Archives published a real Nazi treasure map.

They don’t want to let go of the treasure, because according to Annet Waalkens, from the National Archives, the treasure allegedly buried there by German soldiers at the end of World War II is worth several million!

Hard to stop

Despite the ban, people are not ready to stop searching in Ommeren. The life of this small village in the Gelderland region changed completely because of the people with the nazi map in their hands.

It is not only forbidden to use metal detectors in the municipality of Buren, but they specifically asked the treasure hunters to stop searching.

The police are also trying to handle the situation, though they’ve already given nine warnings, according to NU.nl

Dangers of bombs

Some old bombs from World War II are making it more exciting (and dangerous) the searching experience. The municipality of Buren also released a statement about the dangers of hunting:

“Experts point out that the area is close to the World War II front line. The search there is dangerous because of potentially unexploded bombs, landmines, or grenades.”

According to the municipality, it is unlikely that they will find something.

Dutch delivery worker can’t hold it, does a wee by a front door (and was caught on camera)

If you’ve ever been frustrated by a package-delivery experience, you may want to think again. As The Best Social Media reports, it could always be worse.

After a DHL delivery worker seemed to be taking the piss (quite literally), Rick van Soest took to Twitter to share his frustration.

No fit? No problem.

Let’s set the scene: you ordered a sweater online, and it’s the day of arrival. You’re excited, but you won’t be home between 8 AM and 5 PM. So, you decide to trust the delivery driver to leave your parcel with a neighbour. 📦

What could possibly go wrong? Many things, as it turns out.

Upon arrival at Rick’s house, the delivery driver in charge of his parcel found it was too big to fit through the thin slot of the brievenbus (mailbox).

Easy solution: the delivery worker unpacks the sweater and tries to push it through the mail slot.📮

The driver struggled to fit it completely through, and so the sweater partially blocked the door, which meant that Rick was unable to open it when he came home.

But things get even worse. 😳

When nature calls, you have to answer

After this bad first impression, the DHL worker decided that he couldn’t just leave it at that. And so, he decided to take a wee right outside Rick’s front door. 💦

Add a video doorbell to it, and well, there’s our headline. 📸

DHL’s reaction? Just like most of us reading this, they were “speechless.”

Translation of the screenshot: “I watched the video, and I have to say I’m quite speechless. 😅“

Reactions differed

According to some Twitter users, van Soest should be grateful that he even got his package in the first place. “I’m already missing two [packages],” said one user.

While some responses shared Rick’s frustration, others pointed fingers at mail delivery companies.

One understanding Twitter user wrote: “Give him a break, they already don’t get time to go pee.”

Heavy rainfall but little chance of storming in the Netherlands this week

0

The coming days we will experience some stereotypical Dutch weather, with 50 to 70 millimetres of rain.

After a few beautiful sunny days with scary warm weather, in the southern region of the Netherlands, there will be up to 100 millilitres of rain over the next 10 days.

You can live in any part of the country, but the Dutchies will always have something to talk about. 👀☔️

It’s raining men!

Next week the Netherlands will be even more underwater than usual (is that even possible?).

The monthly amount of weather has already fallen in most of the northern and central regions, and Mother Nature is far from finished

We will have up to 150 millimetres of rain until the end of next week, which is more than what we are used to at this time of the year.

In comparison, in the Netherlands, the average amount of rain is around 90 millimetres per month, according to NU.nl.

Rainy Europe

And it’s not just the country of rain experiencing a smaller monsoon — most of Europe will as well.

On the north side of the Alps, between 100 and almost 200 millimetres of precipitation is calculated, but none of the big cities will survive it without rain.

Our German, Belgian, and French brothers and sisters will also experience some extremely heavy rain in January.

The good news is that it looks like after four years, we will start the springtime season in spring with a normaal amount of moisture in nature. 🌱

No superstorm

Do you remember the heavy wind from the past few years?

According to the weather forecast, this year we won’t have some 350 kilometres per hour wind experience, but with the Dutch weather, you never know!

Schiphol faces huge delays this summer after reporting passenger numbers DOUBLED in 2022

Thought the Schiphol craziness was over? Not just yet! Schiphol prepares for another busy summer after passenger rates doubled in 2022.

Last year Schiphol received 52.5 million passengers — more than twice the amount of passengers in 2021, around 25.5 million.

Campaign manager Joost van Doesburg of FNV (The Netherlands Trade Union Confederation) told the NOS that there are still major staff shortages which means Schiphol will not be ready for the summer.

SIX hours?!

Last year, some passengers waited up to six hours just to check in.. with queues even going outside of the airport.

This was largely the result of staff shortages, as well as, flight cancellations, huge delays, and mismanagement — creating the perfect storm. ⛈️

READ MORE | Chaos at Schiphol: why the biggest Dutch airport is struggling so much

Schiphol CEO Dick Benschop resigned last September because the situation was too difficult to fix. And there is no sign of things improving.

So if you’re going to brave what Schiphol has to offer, we suggest packing a boterham to take with you. 🥪

Minimum wage war

Many employees are still leaving because they don’t believe their wages align with the excessive workload at Schiphol, according to FNV.

However, the airport has not given up just yet. They are in the process of organising a job market along with several airlines to make up for staff shortages.

We can only hope that these efforts will be the end-all, be-all solution. 🤞

Coming, coming, YES! It’s here: the porn Dutchies watched in 2022

Pornhub, the globally-famous website for all one’s pornographic desires and sexual fetishes, just released its watch data for the Netherlands. Let’s just say that the results are deliciously spicy! 🌶️

Just 20 countries drove a whopping 79.3% of all the website’s daily traffic, with the United States and United Kingdom umm… ‘coming’ in first and second place, respectively.

Dutchies, meanwhile, seemed to prefer getting down to business in real life, coming in at 13th place — pretty impressive for a country that is only the 69th most-populated in the world!

What were Dutchies getting off to in 2022?

Let’s just say that “MILF sex” totally dominated the charts once again, continuing its reign as the most-searched-for term in 2022.

Enthusiastically riding their way to second and third place, respectively, were “lesbian sex” and “Turkish” porn. Hot on their heels came:

  • Big ass
  • Dutch
  • Hentai
  • Anal
  • Asian
  • Massage
  • Gangbang

Falling just out of the top ten were Dutchies’ preferences for “threesomes” (#11) and “big tits” (#12).

Whilst “Turkish sex” and Dutch-on-Dutch loving seemed to be as popular as kaas in a boterham, the Netherlands also cast a lusty eye at “Indians” (#13) and “Latinas” (#14). Hoera for tolerance, we guess. 😏

Getting hot and heavy? Time to order a pizza!

Or, rather, time to pretend you’re delivering one. 😋

Dutchies absolutely lapped up some trending searches, which include:

  • Trans fucks girl
  • Festival
  • Pizza delivery
  • Soft porn for women
  • Bouncing boobs

Wat mooi: Amsterdam is the third-most romantic city in the world! (But why don’t Dutchies agree?)

Amsterdam placed third on the world’s list of most romantic cities in a recent survey from Bounce

The Dutch capital has flown up the ranks after scoring a grand total of 7.49 out of 10, receiving a bronze medal for being an ideal place for your annual romantic getaway. Hoera!

There’s just one issue: Amsterdammers say that it’s all lies.

What do Amsterdammers have to say?

Is it any wonder that Amsterdam has been at the top of lovers’ lists to visit for a very long time with the shimmering water of the canals under bridges and cobbled streets?

Late Major of Amsterdam Eberhard van der Laan once said that “the problem is that the rest of the world now knows that too.”

The city’s elegant charm has been buried by the noise and clamour of rowdy lads on their stag parties, as well as by coffeeshop and cheese enthusiasts. 😅

After all, the whole point of a romantic getaway is to get away from the hustle and busy bustle of everyday life, right? Wat jammer!

What makes Amsterdam a romantic city?

The rankings were based on the high number of romantic activities, hotels, and restaurants available that are ideal for the loved-up couple.

Tourists tell AT5 that “the canals, the houses, the whole atmosphere is romantic.” We agree! 🥰

If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em

Make the most out of the third-most romantic city in the world by “behave(ing) like a tourist,” says dating coach Daan de Raam to AT5.

There are many things to do in Amsterdam that’ll get your heart racing. And no, we don’t mean taking a stroll through the Red Light district. 🙄

This test says if you have the flu or COVID-19, so why don’t Dutchies want it?

While half of Europe wants to diagnose which virus they are dealing with, the Dutchies are happy to live in sickness and in health without knowing the details.

Now that literally everyone we know is sick, we naturally want to know if we have just a boring cold — or if we are affecting our surroundings with influenza or COVID-19. 🤧

But what if there was a magical test that could easily tell you what virus is smeared all over your used tissues?

READ MORE: Coronavirus in the Netherlands: all you need to know [UPDATED]

Well, it turns out that this mysterious tool already exists, and half of Europe is using it to navigate their life.

However, Dutchies are saying thanks but no thanks.

The 4-in-1-self-test

Yep, it’s as promising as it sounds: with the 4-in-1 self-test, you can easily diagnose yourself in minutes with COVID-19, Respiratory Syncytial Virus Infection (RSV), or Influenza A or B.

In many southern European countries, the test costs between €4 and €10 and can be picked up at any pharmacy or even gas station, RTL Nieuws reports.

Over two million tests have already been sold in Spain, proving that Spaniards love to know exactly what they are dealing with.

Dutchies don’t want it

However, there is less enthusiasm when it comes to Dutchies and their testing habits. According to the Ministry of Health, any test with a CE mark can be sold in the Netherlands, so pharmacies are allowed to sell it.

READ MORE: The Netherlands officially has a flu epidemic right before Christmas

However, the two biggest pharmacy supply companies in the Netherlands, BENU and Mosadey, say that Dutchies are simply not interested.

Belgian virologist Marc van Ranst tells RTL Nieuws that a test is unnecessary. “You also know without such a test that you have a cold, or do not feel well.”

“People are now suddenly interested in all kinds of viruses and therefore want to know what is wrong with their bodies when they feel sick. That’s what the market has jumped into.”

The virologist says that we can all survive without having the 4-in-1 self-test.

“In a positive test for corona, influenza A and B, or the RS virus, they cannot prescribe antibiotics. That doesn’t help. Many people whine about that, but with such a test result, they can show why they don’t give it. It supports the credibility of the GP.”

Looks like it’s paracetamol for everyone, a la the Netherlands. 💊
